We spent the long weekend over New Years Eve exploring Iceland’s countryside. The ride along Ring Road & Golden Circle was surreal, as we spotted active volcanoes, glaciers, icebergs, waterfalls, and the dancing Northern lights. An island of extremes, nothing really prepared us for Iceland’s geography, fluctuating weather patterns, and minimal daylight, but it was gorgeous.

Because Iceland has only recently experienced a tourism boom, it was refreshingly easy to get away from the crowds, which made for some pretty amazing photos. We often felt like we had Iceland to ourselves, whether we were exploring the blue ice caves of Vatnajokull Glacier, reclining on icebergs that had just washed up on Diamond Beach near the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, taking a dip in the Blue Lagoon geothermal baths, or randomly stopping to pet Icelandic horses grazing near the road. By the end, we almost felt like we were actually living in the The Game of Thrones.
